Sight Words

Kindergarten students learn 53 sight words.  These are words they should learn and know automatically. We begin introducing the words right away.  Students will learn 2-3 words a week.  Each week the students will be tested on the new words as well as those that have already been introduced.  Once all 53 words are learned, the students will be asked to write each word from memory.  They will also be asked to read the words within text.  These words should be known by heart and will help your child become a fluent reader.
